Directline Structures designed and built a new 3000m2 warehouse to accommodate the growing stationery business in 2005. The main challenge was constructing such a large building on such poor quality ground, left from the construction of Eurotunnel. This project was key in formalising our approach to sustainable construction, well before the implementation of BREEAM and similar strategies. The sustainable strategy of this project formed the basis of Duncan Murray’s Chartered Environmentalist accreditation.
The resulting building offers flexible interior space with light and airy office accommodation.
The customised space was so beneficial to the client that West Design increased their growth targets and required a very large extension only 3 years later. The new extension utilised our ability to achieve huge clear spans with the Astron system of 50m, providing the client with unobstructed warehousing space.
